We have a large patch of very sandy soil that turned into adequate to grow a fantastic crop of zucchini and pumpkins 2009, as long as most people kept it well watered. Our tulips did really well not too long ago. We have them dispersed here and there through the yard, but their favorite place is really sandy shady spot almost the front porch. Those tulips were twice as big because the ones that got much more sunshine. This year, however, we got a little warm weather at the begining of spring and then any cold spell. The poor tulips never recovered on the cold and didn bloom in the least! One plant that doesn manage to care where it is actually planted is our rhubarb. It has been shifted from house to house many times, it has grown in different types of soil, and it has recently been watered inconsistently. I then cut it all off and it grows back again!
