Based on the light novel series by Atsushi Kagurasaka, Taisho Baseball Girls is a historical sports series that plays up the peel of life angle in order to good effect. Clocking in at an even dozen episodes, which could be told in the movie form easily enough for afterschool special of forms, it's a very enchanting, simple piece that genuinely does shine in its own way. A coming of age story at a time when the world was changing gives all of it a proper back shift, and while some with it pushes the bounds of believability somewhat, it achieves its objectives easily enough and truly does delight.

The Westernization of Japan at this stage is usually an interesting period in Japan since it's a lot full of social turmoil. Lots of the younger generation see much ahead of them and a lot of options but they're staying held back by most of the previous generation or two who don't see a few of these things as positive adjustments. The series focuses on plenty of junior high school girls that are caught up in the midst of this with Koume as the main character. She's your typical good girl who wants to make some advances but her mother won't let her wear the school uniform as he wants her to remain seated traditional with the kimono. It's a small bit overall, but symbolizes easily a lot of the issues that many associated with her age are struggling with in 1925.

Koume ends up finding herself in an even more complicated position through a friend though. Akiko has decided to begin with a girls baseball team at the all girls school they attend after a man she knows, a baseball player at another school, holds the opinion of which women should just cope with housework. This just sets your ex off and she intends to indicate him up by starting a team that could take him down your peg. Her pleading gets Koume fully briefed rather easily, not that she realizes it at the beginning, and starts them within the path of getting the opposite seven players they need to allow them to form a proper team.

It's not a rushed few games to be played along with the competition between the two schools isn't an on the spot event. Showing the growth in the girls over this period gives it a bunch more realism and allows it to essentially avoid that whole after school special feeling it could have taken if it was before done as a video clip.
